Turnitin

I assigned your first essay today after doing some housekeeping.  I showed you some "DO NOT...DO..." explanations of how to succeed in my class, explained that little doodle on your work turned in on time, reminded you to complete your Weekly WIL on your own time, and showed a movie clip.  For your essay, you must use turnitin.  You should check the Daily Agenda for the essay explanation and the turnitin course #/password.

WASP

See if you can determine what a WASP is in political terms.  We have been reading some primary documents by White (The American Idea), Adams (Liberty & Knowledge), Smith (Wealth of Nations), and Plato (basic philosophies).  I asked you to annotate for answers and note each in your notebook.  You will also get your first essay assignment:  Who should rule?  (Plato vs. Jefferson).  Due next Friday through turnitin.  It will officially be assigned Friday, when the Chapter 2 packet is due for correction.

GDocMoodleWeebly...Extra Credit!

You rotated through the computers in E118 today.  I hope you entered your Constituency list, submitted your second Weekly WIL, and registered for a WEEBLY web page.  I also told you about Extra Credit.  Don't ask for it!  For September, you can watch "Elephant" by Gus Van Sant.  Give me a 1-page review.  I'll consider adding something for October.

Notes on Notes...and More Notes!

On Thursday, I showed you how to outline a textbook chapter.  I hope you learned how to use the technique when taking notes in other classes based on "standard" sources.  It does not work with letters or most narratives.  I also asked you to take your "We the People" lessons (1-4) and take notes on YOUR notes.  You should be able to condense your work to one nice page of important ideas and concepts from the We The People lessons.  Take your "raw" We the People work and turn it in to me - please make sure it is clearly organized, labeled/titled.  We start the day in E5 tomorrow and then move to E118 for the Weekly WIL and Google Docs familiarization.

Here Piggy, Piggy

So, we finished "Lord of the Flies" today.  We'll be discussing the movie and We the People tomorrow.  The bookwork is being collected and entered into the gradebook on Thursday.  Please do NOT take a book home (unless you ask me).  The lessons are available online (Unit I Assignments).

Copy, Read, Think, Note, Answer

You picked up two readings and copied the the definition of Political Philosophy from the board.  As always, the handouts (including what you have to copy) are available online.  As I read the two selections, you were to take notes in your notebook (titled "Political Philosophy: Locke & Rousseau).  I'll point out a few things after which you will have the rest of the time to answer the five questions in your notebook.

Silly Bus & The Butcher

We went over the syllabus today after which I took attendance by mispronouncing names.  Please give me the first couple of weeks to get names and faces matched up correctly.
